I enjoyed both books "Afloat and Ashore" and the Sequel. You have to read both books because the first one leaves you hanging.I wonder when these books where written as his thoughts on the government would agree with mine today. Good story.

It was a very good book, which isn't surprising considering that Cooper is one of America's greatest writers. For me the best of this book is that the characters, which were developed in "Afloat and Ashore," faced different challenges throughout this book, yet they remained true to their personalities throughout. Each character faced more hardships in this book than in the first book, each showing their weaknesses and their strengths as their lives moved forward. There were a couple of leaps of faith that were hard to accept, but overall it is a good read.
Read the first Wallingford book, and was totally bummed with the way it ended. What I didn't know was that there was this sequel out there. What a story! I can recommend these two books to anyone who enjoys post Revolutionary War Naval encounters, mixed with the human side of the people were involved.
Loved all of the adventures of the main character and his honesty, being able to follow the development of the other characters' living experiences, and learning about nautical history with technical detail about crossing the seas, pirates, wars, climates, and the sign of the times. Very enjoyable, but incredibly long story which I loved. I was looking for a story that I could read for a very long time. Would recommend to a dedicated reader.
